TIDEWATER GOBYAn federally-endangered species listed by U.S.Fish and Wildlife Service in 1994 |
PyrethroidA synthesized compound modeled after the naturally occurring pyrethrins found in pyrethrum flowers |
The Zone of InterestThe focus area for this project is Ormond Lagoon, California |
In Southern California’s coast, an endangered species, the tidewater goby now face the threat of an emerging class of pesticides, pyrethroids. U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) is implementing a recovery plan for the tidewater goby population therefore they want to evaluate the potential impact of pyrethroid toxicity on the species. The Go-Gobies is working on the better understanding of pyrethroid contamination in the Ventura area.
OUR GOALAssess the potential impacts of pyrethroid pesticide on the tidewater goby in Southern California’s coast |
First Let's doReviews
Utilize historic and current water quality and species presence data to develop a geospatial representation of pyrethroid concentration zones and tidewater goby populations
|
Now let's RunModels
Implement EPA’s pesticide risk assessment model to estimate the aquatic concentration of pyrethroids and the risk to the tidewater goby
|
IT'S time to giveRecommendations
Formulate best management parctices of pesticides to reduce the off-site transport
Develop key management recommendations to relevant local, state, and federal agencies to reduce the threat of pyrethroids |
OUR WorkWe are helping the tidewater goby to recover its population at its localities in Ventura |
